Question about MacBooks?

If I were to buy a regular MacBook, would I have to buy an Airport (I think that's what they call them) or can I use what I already have for WiFi? Will it connect to what I already have for WiFi? Also, does Microsoft Word and Powerpoint work for Mac's or is there something special they use? Thanks!
